Commercial Hot Cupboards

A commercial hot cupboard is used to keep prepared food, plated meals and suitable plates warm before service. It provides heated storage close to the serving or plating area, helping kitchen staff keep items ready without using cooking equipment for holding. Nordstar hot cupboards are designed for this type of commercial catering use.

Yes. A hot cupboard can be used to keep plates warm before service as well as for holding prepared food. Nordstar specifically lists its hot cupboards as suitable for plated meals and plate warming, making them useful in restaurants, canteens, care homes and other catering environments.

A standard hot cupboard is accessed from one side, while a pass-through model has doors on both sides so contents can be reached from either working area. Pass-through hot cupboards are particularly useful where the unit sits between preparation and service areas or forms part of a chef’s pass. Nordstar’s pass-through models use sliding doors on both sides.

Choose the size according to the available floor space, the volume of food or plates being held and the amount of worktop space required. Nordstar offers standard and pass-through hot cupboards in different widths, including 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm models. The individual product dimensions should be checked before ordering to make sure the unit suits the intended kitchen or service layout.

An undercounter hot cupboard is useful where heated storage is needed but floor and worktop space are limited. It can sit beneath an existing counter or work surface, keeping plates or other suitable items warm without requiring a full-size standalone hot cupboard.

No. A hot cupboard is primarily designed for hot holding rather than for cooking or reheating food from cold. Food should be properly cooked or reheated before being transferred into the cupboard and then held in accordance with applicable food safety requirements.

Check the overall dimensions, electrical requirements, access around the unit and whether a standard, pass-through or undercounter configuration best suits the layout. You should also make sure there is sufficient room for the doors to be accessed and for the unit to be cleaned and maintained. Always check the specification of the individual Nordstar model before installation.
